Provider Forums
Provider Forums are an opportunity for providers to get together to discuss the SP programme and share best practice. They are hosted by the Provider Steering Group (PSG) and the SP team.
An SP Governance and Communication Network [Word, 63.5 KB] links providers and service users to the SP decision making process.
At the Provider Forum, providers can make contact with their provider representative and keep up-to-date on recent developments.
Dates for Forums in 2009 are:

Forums were held at Hove Town Hall Banqueting Suite and lunch or tea, coffee and cakes were provided.
Provider Forum - December 2009
The forum opened with a presentation on the Older People Strategy [Powerpoint, 349 KB] from Peter Lloyd, Emeritus Professor from the Sussex Gerontology Network. Peter represented the Older People's Housing and Support Working Group.
Following this, there were mini workshops on pilots taking place in Older People's Services including ones from the Money Advice and Community Support Service [Powerpoint, 101 KB] and from Prue Baker from Brighton and Hove Jewish Housing Association Limited who took the Older People's Services Workshop [Word 27 KB].
After tea, coffee and cake, Shaun Thurston, Sheltered Housing Assessment Co-ordinator for the Homemove team then gave a presentation on the new assessment process for sheltered housing [Powerpoint, 585 KB].
The forum concluded with a presentation from Kathy Caley , PCT Older People's Commissioner on commissioning services for older people [Powerpoint, 101 KB].
Provider Forum - October 2009
The October Provider Forum focused on preparing for the South East Supported Housing Month (16th November to 11th December 2009).
Providers joined together to co-ordinate a varied and interesting month of events [Word 531 KB].
Diana Bernhardt, Head of the Commissioning Team (Supporting People & Learning Disabilities) also provided a Supporting People update [Powerpoint 1.2 MB].
Commissioning Event – September 2009
An event focusing on commissioning for vulnerable people was held on 22nd September. Commissioners from the PCT, Children and Young Peoples Trust, Probation and Single Homeless and Work & Learning ran information sessions on how they commission services. Our colleagues from Adult Social Care also provided an update on personalisation.
The Commissioning Event began with a presentation by Joy Hollister, B&HCC Director of Adult Social Care & Housing and a presentation by Diana Bernhardt, Head of Commissioning Team (Supporting People & Learning Disabilities). During the morning, commissioners from the Primary Care Trust, Children and Young Peoples Trust, Probation and Single Homeless and Work & Learning ran workshops/information sessions on their commissioning structures.
This was followed by an update on personalisation, self directed support, and market strategy from our colleagues in Adult Social Care. The speakers have also provided an accompanying personalisation handout for providers to refer to after the event.
Provider Forum - June 2009
The June Provider Forum focused on Equality Impact Assessments. There was a presentation on EIAs from Jo Shaw [Powerpoint, 1,306 KB] from the B&HCC Commissioning Team (formally known as the Supporting People Team), Clair Hopkins from the B&HCC Corporate Equalities Team and Petra Davies, the B&HCC Housing Strategy Equalities Lead. This was followed by a workshop exploring how to identify ‘impact’ and ‘actions’ when carrying out an EIA. Attendees received a copy of the Council’s EIA toolkit [Adobe Acrobat, 47 KB] and a flowchart [Word, 42 KB]of the EIA process. Stephen Woodbridge from the Provider Steering Group gave a presentation on the history of Supporting People [Powerpoint 984KB] which he had previously presented to the Strategic Housing Partnership and Narinder Sundar from the B&HCC Commissioning Team provided an SP Update [Powerpoint, 1,281 KB].
Anne Richardson from the Commissioning Team also gave a presentation on Commissioning with the 3rd Sector [Powerpoint, 1,295 KB]

April’s Provider Forum included:
· a presentation from Paul Bolton, Provider Representative [Word, 64KB]
· an SP Team national update [PowerPoint, 315KB]
· an update on actions following the SP Visioning Day [PowerPoint, 314KB]
· a QAF workshop [Word, 78 KB] · two workshops on personalisation, one covering best practice examples [PowerPoint, 1,730 KB] for those familiar with this area and one focusing on applying personalisation to services working with socially excluded groups.
A client questionairre, was discussed in the socially excluded group. This was designed to gather evidence on how services for socially excluded clients are already delivering personalisation in their services.
Lunch was provided by ‘Feast’, a catering project which is part of a Learning Disabilities service based on Buckingham Road.
