Brighton & Hove City Council – Social Inclusion Week
Week of awareness raising events profiling services for single homeless, rough sleepers, offenders, substance misuse & domestic violence
Mon 16th November: 12 – 4pm (Open to the public)
‘Exhibition: Supporting People: Homelessness, Substance Misuse and Domestic Violence Services’ at Support 4 Housing drop in on 144 London Road. The Mayor will be attending. Timeline – from 2003 to present, headline statistics displayed, Pathway diagram with service photos and information, ‘Day in the life’ stories from workers, Service website links set up on internet terminals, Support 4 Housing talking heads, video, case studies.
Tues 17th November: 11a.m.-3 p.m (Open to the public)
Art exhibition at 1 New Steine Mews, off St James’ Street, Brighton. An exhibition of paintings by clients of the Life Skills course at New Steine hostel
Wed 18th November (By invitation only)
Tour of George Williams House. Tour of premises, talk on Work and Learning Policy in the city with a light buffet lunch.
Fri 20th November (By invitation only)
Launch of Single Homeless Strategy at Hove Town Hall Keynote speakers: Maria Caulfield, CLG speaker, Kevin Finnion from Homeless Link, St Mungos on service user involvement. Followed by workshops looking at the key themes of the strategy.

Week of awareness raising events profiling services for Learning Disabilities & Mental Health
Tues 24th November 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. (Open to the public)
Information Session at Grace Eyre, 36, Montefiore Rd, Hove, BN3 6EP. Our main entrance is on Montefiore Rd. (NB this address has changed) This is an opportunity to drop in and talk to providers and service users and hear their personal stories about how supported housing can benefit people with learning disabilities
Weds 25th November 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Open to the public)
Celebrating Supported Housing: Mental Health Event to be held at 144 London Road, Support4Housing Food from Care Co-ops & BHT, Creative Futures to exhibit Raffle with prizes from local businesses offer therapies: Housing Options offer specific case advice
Weds 25th November 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. (Open to the public)
Drop-in information session at Mantell House, Lennox St., BN2 2HD. 1.30-3pm. Meet service users and staff who will be discuss their experiences; the services we provide; service users from Mantell House will give guided tours of the flats and the service at Mantell House. 3.30pm: A short film where service users discuss what is important to them about where they live and the support they need. The Community Support Team will offer specific case advice. Contact Miles Davidson 294017.

A press release to be circulated about the Westbourne Development in Hove. The buildings will be long-term supported-living accommodation for people with learning disabilities.

Week of awareness raising events profiling services for Older People services
Mon 30 Nov 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (Open to the public)
Nintendo Wii Challenge Contest: Elwyn Jones Court Versus Sanctuary Housing Brighton Elwyn Jones Court, South Woodlands, Patcham. Sheltered and Housing for over 50’s. Light nibbles and transport available. You will also have the opportunity to talk freely to residents and ask about the service they receive. It’s a place where you can live safely, in your own separate home and meet new friends.
Mon 30 Nov 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (Open to the public)
Christmas Bazaar run by residents at Patching Lodge 1-76 Park Street, Brighton, BN2 OAQ. With Christmas cards, mince pies, Christmas decorations and much more: free cake samples from Oakhouse foods, Chi Gung workshop, £2 off in house hairdressing salon; Age Concern Surgery; Councillors surgery.
Wed 2nd December 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. (Open to the public)
Anchor Housing Retirement Open Day at Evelyn Glennie Court, Somerset Street, Brighton, BN2 1LT. With refreshments and cakes. To include ‘Boccia’ indoor bowls; Wii Fit interactive demonstrations from Age Concern; Oakhouse Foods demonstration; MACS talk on benefits, debt and budgeting with follow up individual sessions if required.

Open Afternoon at Williamson Cottages Light refreshments provided. Venue will be Scheme Manager’s office, Williamson Cottage Homes – 21 Portland Road ( next to Hove Methodist Church ) BN3 5DQ. Come along for a friendly chat to find out about Fellowship Houses Trust/ Rosemary Simmons Memorial Housing Association, what we currently can offer residents and potential residents, and our plans for the future.Telephone 01273 746113 for any enquiries.
Fri 4th December 10.30 - 4.30 p.m. (Open to the public)
Open Day at Ravensbourne Court, Warren Way, Woodingdean, BN2 6PR (Opposite the Java Community Café) Holding an open day for the local people to come and see what sheltered housing and their outreach service is all about. We are hoping to hold various events during the day including a presentation by the Chestrees Hospice as many of the residents work hard raising fund for them. We have invited the local councillor and Simon Cowells mother! Hoping for another celebrity or two!
Mon 7th December 11 am- 1 p.m. (Open to the public)
Inter skills event at Silver Birches, Brighton. Residents will display their skills: model making, photography, arts and crafts, poetry/writing, reading. Light nibbles and transport available. You will also have the opportunity to talk freely to residents and ask about the service they receive. It’s a place where you can live safely, in your own separate home and meet new friends.

Week of awareness raising events profiling services for Young People & Teenage Parent services
Mon 7th December 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. (Open to the public)
Lansworth House - Band 2 Young People Supported Housing Project Open House and light buffet lunch.
Showcasing the work of young people. Councillors, neighbours and stakeholders can see the positive impact of supported housing for young people and have an opportunity to meet staff, service users and senior managers of Hove YMCA; with young people’s photo stories
Tues 8th Dec 4 p.m. (By invitation only)
The Foyer: A day of events for our residents - Big Lunch, treasure hunt and a quiz. We will open up the quiz to service users of other young peoples' services in the city. Refreshments will be provided.
Tues 8th Dec 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (Open to the public)
Stopover Drop-In coffee morning, Impact Offices, 3rd Floor Brighthelm, North Road. As part of the 'open house' sessions for young people's housing providers. Find out more about us as we provide services for children such as play groups, youth clubs, employment advice and support, which is in addition to the support that we can provide to young women in need of housing at Stopover. It will be an opportunity to see photos that tell services user stories and also to see inspiring short films made service users.

Ovest House - Open Morning with young people’s photo stories and coffee and pastries. Showcasing the Young Persons hub linking the work of both YPC and Ovest House. Giving people the opportunity to see the positive impact of young people's services.

Orlando House (new teenage parent project) launch event at Orlando House, 68 Beaconsfield Road, Brighton, BN1 4PA Councillors, funders, neighbours and young mothers will be invited to attend.

Special Event
Thurs 10th December –The Komedia, Brighton. Tickets £5 (carers go free)
Wild Things launch party – hosted by Heavy Load fresh from appearances at Glastonbury and the No Limits Festival in Berlin, are hosting a party to celebrate the launch of the latest Wild Things album.Wild Things Vol.2 is a double CD compilation featuring musicians with learning disabilities from around the world, as well as a number of artists from Brighton and Hove.
